Funnel cloud rotates overhead - Sunday, April 2, 2006

Today's storm chase was short lived due to quick storm movement. However, we did intercept a rotating wall cloud with a funnel before the storm moved away.

Rotating tower

First chase yields lots of rotation - Tuesday, April 12, 2005

My first chase of the year turned out to be a pretty good show. Many of the clouds associated with the shelf cloud had decent rotation, clockwise and counter clockwise. Not too bad for a 16 mile chase!

Extreme wind producing supercells, transformation to derecho - Tuesday, July 13, 2004

Several tornadoes, large hail, and extreme wind was reported from Northwestern Illinois into Tennessee. The SPC placed the eastern half of Illinois in a moderate risk, expecting a widespread wind event and a few isolated tornadoes.

Pulse storms are difficult to chase - Tuesday, July 6, 2004

I learned yet another lesson on storm chasing today. I've been doing a lot of reading and research on how and why storms develop. Today I tried to put that information to the test, and failed miserably.

High risk chase during the May 30 2004 outbreak - Sunday, May 30, 2004

Scott and I chased several storms during this chase. The atmosphere was extremely unstable, with milcape values around 4500-5000 j/kg. The SPC had us in a high risk for severe weather, and there were at least 8 PDS Tornado Watches issued.

Even though I chased in a PDS Tornado Watch I didn't see any tornadoes or funnel clouds. Besides that, I saw some really cool stuff!

First chase of the year - Tuesday, May 18, 2004

This was my first chase of the year. We had a severe thunderstorm watch issued at noon until 7:00 P.M. This chase didn't yield very much for me, but I was able to test my new chasing equipment.
